Happy Valentine’s Day, friends!
Whether you have a Valentine or are rocking this day solo – Enjoy it! Treat yourself or your significant other… enjoy your day!
This week I showed you my quick Valentine’s Day Mantel I put together… and you may have noticed I took down my typical square window I always have propped up, and replaced it with something new! I decided to create a new base to switch things up.
What I created for a new backdrop was a pallet square – It was SO easy. Today I’m going to show you how you can quickly make your own!
For your project you will need:
Extra wood (to secure the back – you’ll see!)
Nails & Hammer
Crowbar (or something else to remove the pallet wood, the back of a hammer may work for you)
The first thing you want to do is get a pallet. You will notice in the next photo I have a completely different pallet… haha! That’s because this first pallet was outside too long and we couldn’t get the nails out… but you get the idea. Luckily, we had a “fresh” one handy.
The next step is to pry all of your boards apart and start laying them side by side… You want as many planks as you need to create a square shape.
Once you have your planks ready, turn the side you want face-up downward, and using some solid scrap wood you may have handy, start nailing the wood into the back of the planks. I used nails that were thin but on the longer side – make sure your nails are the correct size to secure your wood without coming through the other end, and also thin enough to not split your wood.
(Optional) When you’re finished, turn your pallet backdrop around and lay it on a work surface, whether that be a drop cloth, newspaper, or sawhorses. I used a couple of sawhorses. I then applied one coat of Minwax Special Walnut stain with a paint brush… this is my all-time favourite stain that you will recognize from our island in our kitchen tour!
Once it’s dry, you are finished! You can now lean it wherever you choose like a mantel, shelf, or buffet table! I added a nail to the top to hold my wood-rose wreath.
Let me know how you decorate your own DIY pallet backdrop!
Have a great weekend!
