Small Budget Bathroom Makeover

Small Bathroom Makeover - Nest of Bliss

Hi friends!

Recently I shared with you our DIY planked wall tutorial for our bathroom, and as promised – here is the full room reveal!

We are so pleased that we finally got around to finishing this bathroom. It was a mess to deal with… We *started* to work on it by changing the shower head to a lovely “rain” shower head, and changed the bulky vanity to a pedestal sink – but then we left it alone for another year. That’s how it goes sometimes, right?

Below are some awful before shots of how our bathroom started out:

Yup. That’s a pull switch light. So convenient to walk in and turn on in the dark… Not!

This was one of the last wallpaper removals we had to do. Yipee! We also did some foam insulating.

This pedestal sink we actually installed pre-blogging. Before there was a bulky vanity taking up heaps of space.

Now that that awful mess is over, here are the AFTER SHOTS!
Keep in mind this is a very small bathroom, so it’s not really possible to get an overall shot of the space.

Much brighter! The horizontal planked walls we installed helped to visually expand the space.

For the walls we added simple hooks onto the planks for easy access to towels. We also changed out the paper roll holder to a simpler design.

Basic wood shelves Jeff built were added for storage for towels and other bathroom necessities.

…We own more than two hand towels. It was laundry day, ya’ll!

All of my antique insulators are second-hand. I never spend more than a few dollars on one. I love how unique each one is.

The shelves also serve as a nice place to display some of my beachy decor. My conch shell has never looked better! ;)

At the bottom of the shelves, a wicker basket was added for dirty laundry. Not having to carry our clothes to our own basket in our bedroom has been so convenient!

We selected a grey vinyl flooring in here which really helped finish off the space. For the footsies, I selected a sea green shag rug from HomeSense that can just be tossed in the wash when dirty.

Here’s the rain shower head we installed. Prior to this there was a very aged small shower head with poor pressure.

We dealt with the pull light by installing a switch and an attractive small chandelier and decorative base. It adds a nice bit of glam to this otherwise laid-back space. The chandelier used to hang in our old bedroom when we were in a rental – we purchased it from Home Depot for under $100! The last time I saw it there it was around $70 or so, but many similar models to ours can be found through their website.

In addition to the sink we installed, we removed the shelves and hung an antique mirror that I bought from a foreclosure sale – in a barn of all places!

I just simply painted it over and glazed it in black. :)

Our soap dispenser and bar holder are from HomeSense. They bring a nice texture to the simple sink.

Speaking of – the sink we selected is very wide which is really useful for Jeff in the morning when he needs to shave. We purchased it second-hand for $40! It creates a lot more flow in this small bathroom not having a large vanity sitting here.

For wet hands, we decided to hang a hand towel on a simple hook.

This useful holder for our toothbrushes was made based on a tutorial that you can find here, it is fantastic and so easy to create!

I don’t have an angled shot for the toilet – but trust me it’s just a toilet. ;) Above it I placed a wire basket to store extra toiletpaper.

Well guys… that’s the whole makeover! I hope you enjoyed the transformation. We have to say we are very pleased to finally have a functional bathroom. :)
